more of my family’s Thanksgiving in Thailand
So we continued our super fabulous Thanksgiving holiday in Bangkok. Of course we were exhausted after our hour and a half flight so what better way to ease back into things than with a two hour Thai massage. Oh yeah! This was Drew’s first Thai massage and he loved every minute of it. I could tell because I was watching! I always feel like somebody is watching me….and I’ve got no privacy……oh oh oh. Haha, I was able to watch him though because you are given the option to close off your room with a curtain or keep it open. You know I was all about keeping the curtain open so I could watch Drew’s expression during some of the more ludicrous, contortionist stretches. To make things even better, we scored this bad boy for 300 baht or $9. Sweet!
Our next big event was a bike tour around the ruins of Ayuttaya. This was amazing and such an incredible way to visit these gorgeous sites. We made several stops along the way, as there is a ton to see, but a bus would follow us between stops to provide tasty treats and water. This was huge because the sun is no joke here. Mom was not a big biker and she didn’t love to sweat so I think she would have opted to zoom from site to site in the air conditioned bus.
Behold Ayuttaya. It’s stunning and you are going to love it. We certainly did!

Ne was our tour guide and she is a mega athlete, having just completed a marathon a few days prior. She was still a bit sore from the run, but that didn’t stop her from zooming around on her bike. You go, Ne!

Here’s a great shot of Wally getting a great shot of me!

Below is the King’s summer palace. Prior to building this he visited Europe and fell in love with the architecture. His advisers became concerned that it was too western and advised him to add something Thai to the landscape, which is featured below. Also, they are piping in music the entire time we toured the landscape and it was music composed by the King. Man, he can do everything. Ask any Thai and they will agree! They love their King.

The house below is where the King would sleep. No women allowed. Only the King.

The tower is where the King would do his stargazing.

Here we are having a couple of drinks before it’s time to hit the town.

This next scene is of an ice bar that was inside of one of the clubs. I saw this dude in his full ski jacket, but hadn’t seen the ice bar yet. I thought it seemed a bit strange since it’s ridiculously hot in Bangkok, but then I saw the bar and figured it out. Who’s a smart one?
Here I am getting all crunk after taking my lychee vodka shot!

Here is a scene from one of the malls in Bangkok. It’s Christmas mania here….at least from a commercial perspective.

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Drew. Bye, Drew! It was great to have you in Thailand and I had so much fun hanging with you. Safe travels to Japan. I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures there. Hugs!

And here are Wally, Tyler and I on my last night with them in Bangkok. We’re on some rooftop and it was fabulous! You may be wondering where Rob is in these shots? Does Rob hate the family? No, Rob doesn’t hate the family. Poor Rob is sick so he’s taking it easy in the evenings to get himself better. We missed you, Rob.

And here we are right before it’s time to say goodbye. Of course, we’re having another massage. Wally and Tyler and getting hooked up with a 2 hour massage. I’m meeting my friend in Bangkok so I only have time for a one hour massage. I mean, is it even worth it if I can’t do 2 hours? Ha! Kidding! It’s definitely worth it and I was all about it, but the 2 hour massage is the way to go if you can do it. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!
Before going in to the massage room, they clean your feet. It’s a nice touch.

Of course, we kept the curtain open. The pajamas are part of the experience as well.

Bye Wally and Tyler! What a wonderful Thanksgiving we’ve had. We have definitely upped the ante here. Whatever will we do for Thanksgiving 2010? Safe travels back to the States.
It was so wonderful to have my family together for 2 weeks. What an amazing trip. We will never forget this. I miss you already and can’t wait to catch up on Skype. I love you!
More from Bangkok shortly.
